Freedom Falls Water Hole

Swain Brook Campground's nature park contains dozens of small cascading waterfalls. Freedom Falls (top), the largest cascade in the park, is running a little above average flow in these pictures. This cascade runs 143' in length. Freedom Falls (left) a day after a big rain storm, is pure white water and can be heard quite a distance away.

A deep water hole located at the bottom of Freedom Falls (small photo above) usually contains a few dozen small-medium Brook Trout. This is one of the best fishing spots in the campground when the water slows down. Near the top of the falls is one of the largest potholes along Swain Brook measuring 4' in diameter. It is not recommended to take children to see the pothole since the falls are steep and hazardous. Adults can take their chances for a natural whirlpool dip during hot summer days.

The picture to the left shows one of our mountain shoots with above average water flow. The picture to the right is the same cascade a day after a large rain storm.

This cascade is located along our main hiking trail, just northwest of the camping area. It is easily accessible to most novice hikers.

Swain Brook Cascade

When the water flows, this cascade wraps around an island in the middle. One of the larger water holes is situated at the bottom of the falls.

Swain Brook Pool

This beautiful water hole in the nature park is located under a small cascading waterfall. During average flow, the water is at chest level.

Swain Brook Pool

This water hole, with it's natural stone bath, is located just south of our bridge that crosses into the tenting area. It is only a few hundred feet from the campground store and the bath-house.
